Learn about the Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 migration and upgrade requirements	Before you upgrade or migrate, review the prerequisites, differences from previous versions, and supported migration paths. Prepare Symantec Client Security or Symantec AntiVirus for migration	Before you migrate from a legacy version, perform the following tasks: Disable scheduled scans. See Disabling scheduled scans in Symantec System Center when you migrate client computers. Disable LiveUpdate. See Disabling LiveUpdate in Symantec AntiVirus before migration. Turn off Tamper Protection. See Changing Tamper Protection settings. Turn off the roaming service. See Turning off the roaming service. Unlock server groups. See Unlocking server groups in Symantec System Center. Uninstall and delete reporting servers. See Uninstalling and deleting reporting servers.
Upgrade Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager	Perform the following tasks before you upgrade the management server: Back up the database. See Backing up the database and logs. Turn off replication (if used). See Turning off replication before migration. Disable secure communication between the server and the clients. Alternatively, enable communication over non-secured HTTP ports. For more information, see the knowledge base article Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x: How to Change the ports used for communication between the Manager and clients. Remove any packages that are assigned to the client groups. If you deploy the client packages that do not use the Maintain existing client features when upgrading option, these packages must be removed. For more information, see the knowledge base article Clients show "No Symantec protection technologies are installed" after migrating the SEPM from 11.x to 12.1
Manage product licenses	Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 is licensed according to the number of clients that are needed to protect the computers at your site. See Product license requirements. See About product upgrades and licenses
