How can I use Barcode Solution to track my computers?

My computers have been discovered and inventoried and now I'm trying to use Barcode Solution to track them. I have downloaded the computers to the barcode scanner but when I scan a computer, it appears to be an unknown asset. How can I fix this? 

Answer
If you are using the Serial Number tag that many manufacturers provide, here is a quick way to accomplish this.

  1. Run the Inventory to Asset Synchronization CMDB task.

    For Symantec Management Platform 7.x, this is found in Manage > Jobs and Tasks > System Jobs and Tasks > Service and Asset Management > CMDB > Inventory to Asset Synchronization.

    For Notification Server 6, this is found in Configuration > Solution Settings > CMDB Solution > Inventory to Asset Synchronization.
     
  2. Re-sync the data to the handheld device.

Troubleshooting

If the Inventory to Asset Synchronization is unable to be ran, or the data already exists but is incorrect in the synced fields, a CMDB rule can be used to correct this. The scope of this article does not include steps on how to create a CMDB rule for this purpose. It is recommended instead to resolve the sync issue to enable this to work in the standard way.
