Preparing to back up

You must consider specific areas of the server when you prepare to perform a backup. A primary goal is to preserve data from loss within ServiceDesk or Symantec Workflow projects during the backup.

See About backing up and restoring Symantec Workflow and ServiceDesk.

The environment that you want to back up contains several architectural components and subcomponents that you must consider when performing a backup, as follows:

  • Process Manager database. Symantec Workflow projects and ServiceDesk Solution use this database.

    See Process Manager database.

  • SymQ messaging bus. SymQ provides a messaging bus architecture that all Symantec Workflow projects leverage.

ServiceDesk also uses this message bus.

    See SymQ messaging bus.

  • Symantec Workflow Server. This Windows service is the core engine of Symantec Workflow; consequently, ServiceDesk also uses it.

    See Symantec Workflow Server.

  • IIS 7.5. When published, each Symantec Workflow project creates a virtual folder on the IIS server; therefore, the w3wp process of IIS serves each running workflow.

    See IIS 7.5.

If you know what you plan to back up and have prepared for the backup, proceed to the backup task.

See Backing up Workflow and ServiceDesk.
