Importing data from a Wise Software Repository

Wise Connector lets you import software packages and their associated metadata from a Wise Software Repository into Software Management Framework. The Wise Software Repository is a centralized point for managing software packages in Wise Package Studio. The Wise Software Repository includes the share point directory and the Software Manager database.

See When Wise Connector can import data from a Wise Software Repository.

To import data from a Wise Software Repository, you must be assigned the Symantec Software Librarian security role. The Symantec Management Platform administrator can assign people to this role.

Description

Step 1

Install Wise Connector.

You install Wise Connector on the Symantec Management Platform computer. You use Symantec Installation Manager to install Wise Connector. Wise Connector lets you configure a connection to the Wise Software Repository.

See How Wise Connector works.

Step 2

Add a Wise Package Studio data provider.

You must add a Wise Package Studio data provider before you can import software packages and their associated metadata from the Wise Software Repository. To add a Wise Package Studio data provider, you configure a connection to the Wise Software Repository.

See Adding a Wise Package Studio data provider.

Step 3

Configure the precedence settings for Wise Connector.

Precedence settings determine whether the data that Wise Connector imports can update the metadata of software resources that are in the Software Catalog. Precedence settings also determine whether other sources of data can update the data that the Wise Connector imports.

Step 4

Import the packages and data from the Wise Software Repository.

You can schedule when Wise Connector imports software packages and their metadata. With a scheduled import, all the software resources that have data that is available for import are imported. You can also manually import software resources. With a manual import, you can select specific software resources to import.

See Importing data from a Wise Software Repository on a schedule.

See Importing data from the Wise Software Repository manually.

Step 5

View the Software Data Provider Status report.

This report lets you view the status of the import tasks of a Wise Package Studio data provider. You can double-click a task to see the status of each software resource that the task attempted to import. This report is in the Reports > Data Providers > Software folder.

Step 6

Resolve duplicate software resources.

Duplicate software resources can occur when Wise Connector imports a new software resource for software that is already defined in the Software Catalog. Perhaps the company name in each resource is slightly different.
