Note: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is included on the Symantec System Recovery 2011 Management Solution media.  Symantec recommends that you install Microsoft SQL Server and Symantec System Recovery 2011 Management Solution on separate computers to avoid computer performance issues.
Software
The following must be installed on the computer on which you want to install SSR-MS:
■ Microsoft Internet Information Services
■ Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
■ Microsoft ASP.NET
■ Microsoft Internet Information Services 6.0
■ Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 (and 8.0 in compatibility view)
■ Microsoft Silverlight 3.0 or later
■ Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5
■ Symantec Installation Manager 7.0
■ Symantec Management Platform 7.0 SP5
Note: Installation of SSR-MS is not supported on encrypted file systems.
Note: It is recommended to review the Symantec Management Platform 7 (SMP) user guide before installing.  The SMP user guide can be found at http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC2139.
Internet access
High speed Internet access is recommended at the computer where you install SSR-MS.
DVD ROM drive
Required for local installation.

Internet access
High speed Internet access is recommended at the computer where you install SSR-MS.

Prepare the Operating System for the install by adding the IIS role with ASP.NET, and .Net
Log on to your computer by using either the Administrator account or an Account that has administrator privileges.
 
Insert the Symantec System Recovery Management Solution DVD into the DVD drive of the computer.
 
In Windows Explorer, in the left pane, click My Computer.
In the right pane, double-click the name of the product DVD to start the installation.
Click on Installation
 
Click Next
Determine if Symantec System Recovery Management Solution suits your environmental requirements. If you plan to use more than 20 managed clients, click Next.
 Ensure that your hardware  meets the minimum requirements for the Install, and Click Next
It is recommended that you use an off host SQL instance within a production environment.
Select the Correct Option for you environment, and Click Next
 
If the Symantec Installation Manager is not installed, The Symantec Installation Manager - Install Package dialog box appears
Click Continue.
Specify the folder where you wish to extract the Symantec Installation Manager files. Click OK to extract the Symantec Installation Manager Files. Following the extraction, click OK
 

 
The Symantec Installation Manager Setup wizard will Start, Click Next


 
Read the end-user license agreement, if you accept, click  “I accept the terms in the license agreements” and then click Next.
Select Install path and Click Begin Install.


 
 
Symantec Installation Manager is now installed; Click Finish and rest of the install will be performed from Symantec Installation Manager


On the Install New Products panel, in the Filter drop-down list, select None.
 
Select the following products:
 
·         Symantec System Recovery 2011 Installer
 
·         Symantec Management Platform
 
·         Symantec System Recovery 2011 Management Solution
 
Some of the other selections are optional, For example
 
Symantec System Recovery Linux Management Solution
 
Symantec System Recovery 2010 Lights Out Restore
 
Symantec Management Agent for UNIX, Linux and Mac
Only install optional Selections if needed
 
Confirm you have the correct Selections and click Next


 
Confirm selections and Click Next


 
Check the output of the Install Readiness Check
Readiness is analyzed and various icons are displayed, represent differing results of the analysis, as documented below:
Check mark: The requirement and the recommendations are met.
 
Exclamation point: The requirement is met. You can continue with the Installation However, there are some recommendations to consider.
 
X: The requirement is not met. You cannot continue with the
Installation until the requirement is met.
 
Where applicable, a link appears in the Install Readiness Check panel that
allows the installation of the missing software or repair the configuration from within the Symantec Installation Manager panel.
 
If a link does not appear, you must exit the installation, install the missing software component, and then start Symantec Installation Manager again
 
You may be required to restart your computer after the required software is installed
 
After you make the changes to the computer, click Check install readiness again to
Recheck your system.
 
When all the requirements are met in the Install Readiness Check panel, you can continue with the installation, Click Next
You must supply a username and password for Notification Server. Preferably, the Administrator account or an account that has administrator privileges.
In the Notification Server Configuration panel, type the appropriate information to complete the panel, and then click Next

 
You may receive a pop-up in regards to configuration of the web site.  Read them and then click OK to proceed
Depending on the location of the SQL installation, use the pull down select the correct server. If using a local SQL instance, enter the Local server name in the SQL server name field
Select the correct options and click Next


 
Confirm the installation details are correct, and click Begin Install
Install will start
After completion, in the Installation panel, click Finish to launch the Symantec Management Console.


 
 
Once the install is completed, there are several tasks to ready Symantec System Recovery 2011 Management Solution to perform backups
 
Upon first opening the Management console, you may be prompted to add the site to the trusted sites list
 
 
Add the site or adjust the security accordingly
 
 
You will be prompted to install the add-ons needed to run the console.
 
Click the Prompt and select Install
 
 
 
Go to the home button then Backup and Recovery. Select Symantec System Recovery 2011 Management Solution


 
Once the Symantec System Recovery 2011 Management Solution loads, the steps required to install and configure the Symantec System Recovery 2011 Management Solution will be listed on the left
 
Click the Domain Discovery link


 
 
Type the correct Domain in the Add Domain Field and click the plus (+) button
Check off the Domain Browse List and Domain Membership Boxes
Click the Discover Now Button
Depending on the size and speed of your network, the time for discovery can vary greatly.


 
Once the discover is complete, click the Save Changes button and close the window.


 
Next, push the Symantec Management Agent to systems that will be managed.
Click Install the Symantec Management Agent.
Click Select Computers
The Agent can be installed utilizing two methods: The Roll-out and the Scheduled push. The roll-out is most commonly used in new installations.
 


 
Select the systems you want to push the agent to on the left, and click the single arrow to move them to the right.
Once all systems are selected in the right column, click OK.


 
The selected system should Now be listed in the window.
Ensure the systems are highlighted, and click the Install button.


 
Select the options for installation, and click Proceed With Install.
 
Automatic refresh may be configured by selecting the arrow in the top-right corner of the Rollout Agent to Computers section. See above. Refreshing Updates the status of the push install.
 
Upon completion, the action column for each system will display: Remote Install Finished.
Close the window once all push installs have finished.


 
Next, install the plug-in for Symantec System Recovery.
 
Click Install the Plug-in for Symantec System Recovery.


 
The default filter will push the plug-in to all computers that possess an agent.
 
The default can be used, or a custom filter may be defined.


 
 
To use the default filter, enable it by clicking the red button at the top right and selecting the green “ON” button.
 
Select Save Changes.
 
If the install policy remains enabled, the plug-in will be pushed automatically to any agents that meet the filter criteria.
 
 
Next, install Symantec System Recovery
 
Click the Install Symantec System Recovery 2011 link


 
 
The Default Filter will install on all computers without Symantec System Recovery 2011 installed.
 
This can be deleted and replaced with another filter.


 
 
To delete the default filter Select it and click on the red X above it.
 


 
 
Click on Apply to, then Computers.


 
 
 
To create a new filter, click Add Rule.
 


 
 
 
To create a Filter with a computer list, select exclude computers not in, then computer list in the second
 
Click the three dots (…)


 
 
 
 
Select computers to be targets for the policy and click the right arrow (>) to move them to the right side of the window.
 
Once all are selected , click OK
 
 
This policy will Automatically Reboot the target computers after install
 
When you are ready for the Target Computers to be rebooted after the install, Perform the Steps Below
 
Set the agent policy to ON by clicking on the Red light at the top right and changing it to a Green ON button.


 
 
 
 The Policy will push and install the package on the target agents. To expedite the process, navigate to the target computer, open the Symantec management agent and click Settings.


 
 
Click update and send and close this window


 
 
Under the options menu on the left, click Show Scheduled Tasks and Show Internal Tasks.
 
The install policy should now show on the right and the status will be displayed


 
 
 
After the packages have been deployed, and all target systems have been rebooted, click on the Manage Tasks tab from the Symantec System Recovery 2011 Management Solution menu.


 
 
The Install Microsoft Silverlight icon may appear. Click on the Install Silverlight button to proceed.


 
 
 
Select Run to install Silverlight.


 
 
A refresh of the page may be required after the installation of Silverlight.


 
 Expand computers . Systems with the plug-in should be listed with a Status.
