Description

The Exchange Mailbox Archiving Option and the File System Archiving Option can be moved from one media server to another per the instructions below.

Prerequisites

The following items are prerequisites for moving a media server on which the Archiving Options are installed:

• Back up the Archive Option components from the original media server as shown:

• Follow the instructions in TechNote TECH67768 in the Related Articles Section below to move the media server, with the following exceptions:

• The new media server name cannot have the same name as the original media server.
• When installing Backup Exec on the new media server, do not select the Exchange Mailbox Archiving Option or the File System Archiving Option for installation. If these options are selected, then uncheck them. Otherwise, the move operation is not successful.

After completing the prerequisites, use the following steps to move the Archiving Options:

1. Redirect the restore of the Directory database to the new media server by doing the following in the order listed:

• On the original media server, click Restore.

• Select only the Directory database for restore.

• On the Properties pane, under Destination, click Archive Redirection, and then enter the new media server name and the new SQL server instance name.

2. On the original media server, open Backup Exec Utility and do the following in the order listed:

• Right-click the original media server.
• Select Change Database location for the Archiving Option, and then enter the new SQL server name. For example, “NewMediaServerName\BKUPEXEC.

Note: Do not check the data file and log file check boxes.

• Click OK.

3. Restore the existing vault store databases and the fingerprint database to the new media server by doing the following in the order listed:

• On the original media server, click Restore.
• Select the Vault Store database and the Fingerprint database.

4. On the original media server, open the Backup Exec Utility, and do the following in the order listed:

• Right-click the original media server.
• Select Update SQL Server Name for the Archiving Option.

5. On the original media server, stop all Backup Exec services.

6.  Copy the ArchiveIndex folder from the Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec path to the folder \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec on the new server.

Note: If the vault partition is created on a server that is remote to the original server, then skip the next step.

7. If the vault partition path on the original server is on the local NTFS path, then keep the partition path the same on the new server.

For example, if on the original server the partition P1 is created on D:\folder1\folder2\P1, then copy all files from the P1 folder.  Create the same folder structure on the new media server (D:\folder1\folder2\P1) and paste the files to the new folder.

8. On the original media server, start all Backup Exec services.

9.  Start the Backup Exec Utility, expand All Media Servers, and then select the media server for which you want to change the computer name.

10. In the task pane, under Archiving Option Tasks, click Update Media Server.

11. Type the new media server name, and then click OK.

12. Copy BEAOdatabases.xml from the folder Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec on the original media server to the folder Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec on the new media server.

13. On the new media server, open Backup Exec.

14. . Click Tools > Install Options and License Keys on this Media Server.

15. Add the Archiving Option licenses in the “Add License Key” dialog box, and then continue with the installation.
