[27051] init_modules: error while calling init function for module $error_module_name

Error code: 27051

Error text: init_modules: error while calling init function for module $error_module_name

Affected module: brightmail_engine

Product version: Symantec Brightmail Gateway 9.0 and later versions

Symptoms:

The specified module is not used to filter mail until the module is successfully reinitialized. However, the module attempts to reinitialize every few minutes. If this issue is ongoing, this error repeats every few minutes or repeats every minute.

Cause:

The most common cause is that something has caused the rule file for the module to become invalid.

Resolution:

If the error does not continue to occur, it can safely be ignored as the system has corrected itself. If the error still occurs and the module that is named in the error is not gatekeeper, manually remove the rules file.

To manually remove the rules file

  1. Delete the rules with the following command:

    delete <name>rules

    For example:

    delete spamhunterrules

  2. Restart the connector with the following command:

    service connector restart

A list of possible options for the delete command including all the possible rule types may be found by entering the help delete command.

If the module is gatekeeper, or if you removed the rules file for a different module, and the error continues to occur, add a new Content policy or modify the existing policy. You may immediately change the policy back, or delete it if you want - the objective is to make a change to the Content policies to force the creation of a new ruleset. It is not necessary to delete or restart anything in this circumstance.

Even if these corrective actions resolved this issue, you may see this error or other errors regarding rule loading or module initialization. The error may appear for a couple of minutes as the system finishes restoring itself.

If the error continues to occur after performing these corrective actions, contact Symantec customer support for further assistance.
