[10307] Error while trying to rename file $old_filename to $new_filename: $reason

Error code: 10307

Error text: Error while trying to rename file $old_filename to $new_filename: $reason

Where $old_filename is the name of the file being renamed. $new_filename is the name which the file is being renamed to. $reason is the reason for the failure.

Affected module: brightmail_client

Product version: Symantec Brightmail Gateway 9.0 and later versions

Symptoms:

One or more antispam rulesets is not current.

Cause:

The common reason for this error is that the MTA is unable to start due to an invalid antivirus ruleset. If so, this error occurs immediately after errors 24021, 46013, and 46041. Additionally, the$old_filename is (null). For more information, see the Log Sample.

Resolution:

This issue may be the result of larger issues in your system. Examine all system information and scanner logs for problems with the hard disk, including running out of disk space. If you find problems, please correct them before proceeding.

Solution 1

If the problem is an invalid antivirus ruleset, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to the system's command line interface.

  2. Stop the MTA and the connector services.

  3. Run delete avrules command.

  4. Restart the connector and the MTA services.

When deleting the current antivirus rules, the system restores a backup ruleset that is known to be good, and the connecter immediately starts to download a current ruleset.

Solution 2

If the error messages do not indicate an issue with the antivirus ruleset, or the first solution does not resolve the issue, contact Symantec customer support for assistance.
