Method

Description

Interactive installation and configuration using the script-based installer

Note:

If you obtained SFHA Solutions product from an electronic download site, you must use the installprod script instead of the installer script. For example, you must use installsf script to install SF.

You can use one of the following script-based installers:

  • Common product installer script:

    installer

The common product installer script provides a menu that simplifies the selection of installation and configuration options.

  • The product-specific installation script provides command-line interface options. These scripts enable you to specify some additional command-line options. Installing and configuring with the installprod script is identical to specifying SFHA Solutions product from the installer script.

Use this method to install or configure only your product.

See About Veritas Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions installation scripts.

Silent installation using the response file

You can use the installer to generate a response file, which automates installation and configuration by using system and configuration information stored in a specified file instead of prompting for information. You can then customize the response file for another system. Run the script-based installer with the response file to install silently on one or more systems.

Web-based installer

The Web-based installer provides an interface to manage the installation and configuration from a remote site using a standard Web browser.

webinstaller

Note:

SF Sybase CE does not support installation and configuration using the Web installer.

Network Installation Manager (NIM)

On AIX:

You can perform many advanced NIM installation tasks using the NIM interface and the System Management Interface Tool (SMIT). Use the Veritas product installer or the product-specific installation script to generate a NIM installp bundle. Use the generated installp bundle to install Veritas filesets from your NIM server.

Kickstart

On Linux:

Kickstart enables the system administrator automatically to install systems based on predefined customized configurations. Kickstart is an automatic operating system installation method available for the Red Hat Linux operating system.

Note:

SF Sybase CE does not support installation and configuration using Kickstart.

JumpStart

On Solaris:

You can use the Veritas product installer or the product-specific installation script to generate a JumpStart script file. Use the generated script to install Veritas packages from your JumpStart server.

Manual installation and configuration

Manual installation uses the operating system commands to install SFHA Solutions product. To retrieve a list of all packages and patches required for all products in the correct installation order, enter:

# installer -allpkgs
