Setting the PATH and MANPATH environment variables for SFHA Solutions products

You must set the PATH and MANPATH environment variables for Veritas Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions products.

Installation commands and other commands reside in the /sbin, /usr/sbin, and /opt/VRTS/bin directory. Add this directory to your PATH environment variable.

For high availability products:

If you have any custom scripts located in /opt/VRTSvcs/bin directory, make sure to add the /opt/VRTSvcs/bin directory to your PATH environment variable.

To set the PATH variable

  • Do one of the following:

    • For the Bourne Shell (sh), Bourne-again Shell (bash), or Korn shell (ksh), type:

      $ PATH=/opt/VRTS/bin:$PATH; export PATH

    • For the C Shell (csh) or enhanced C Shell (tcsh), type:

      $ setenv PATH :/opt/VRTS/bin:$PATH

Note:

On Linux:

To invoke the VxFS-specific df, fsdb, ncheck, or umount commands, type the full path name: /opt/VRTS/bin/ command.

Set the MANPATH variable to view the manual pages.

To set the MANPATH variable

  1. Do one of the following:

    • For the Bourne Shell (sh), Bourne-again Shell (bash), or Korn shell (ksh), type:

         $ MANPATH=/opt/VRTS/man:$MANPATH; export MANPATH

    • For the C Shell (csh) or enhanced C Shell (tcsh), type:

         % setenv MANPATH /usr/share/man:/opt/VRTS/man

    On Linux:

    If you use the man command to access manual pages, set LC_ALL to "C" in your shell for correct page display.

    # export LC_ALL=C

  2. On Linux:

    On a Red Hat system, also include the 1m manual page section in the list defined by your MANSECT environment variable.

    • If you are using a shell such as sh or bash, enter the following: 

      $ MANSECT=$MANSECT:1m; export MANSECT

    • If you are using a shell such as csh or tcsh, enter the following: 

      % setenv MANSECT $(MANSECT):1m

Note:

On AIX:

The nroff versions of the online manual pages are not readable using the man command if the bos.txt.tfs fileset is not installed; however, the VRTSvxvm and VRTSvxfs filesets install ASCII versions in the /opt/VRTS/man/cat* and /opt/VRTS/man/man* directories that are readable without the bos.txt.tfs fileset.
