Array utilization reports in Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server 5.0

Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server array utilization reports show how efficiently you are running your storage environment from an array perspective.

Table: Array utilization reports

Name

Description

Arrays with Claimed Storage

Lists the arrays that have allocated storage to hosts where the host's OS has written a device handle to the LUN. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this amount under Claimed Status: Claimed.

Arrays with Unclaimed Storage

Lists the arrays that have storage allocated to hosts where the host's OS has not written a device handle to the LUN. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this amount under Claimed Status: Unclaimed.

Arrays with Undiscovered Allocated Capacity

Lists the arrays that have storage allocated that Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server has not discovered. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this amount under Claimed Status: Unknown.

Arrays with Available Configured Storage

Lists the arrays that have configured storage still available. This available configured capacity includes the disks that have been formatted but not yet carved into LUNs. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists the amount under Logical: Available.

Arrays with Unallocated Storage

Lists arrays with the configured storage that has been carved into LUNs whereby the LUNs are not in use. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this storage under Logical: Unallocated.

Arrays with Administrative Overhead

Lists the arrays that have configured storage set aside by the array for the administrative uses that do not include RAID overhead. In snapshot or replication scenarios, this value includes target LUNs for storing copied or replicated data. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this amount under Logical: Administrative.

Arrays with RAID Overhead

Lists the arrays that have configured storage set aside by the array for RAID operations, such as mirroring or striping. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server calls this amount Logical: Overhead.

Array Storage Available for Allocation

Shows how much of your back-end array storage is still available for allocation.

The Array Storage Available for Allocation report shows this available storage as follows:

  • Available Configured Capacity. The amount of configured storage that has been formatted but not yet carved into LUNs. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this amount under Logical: Available.

  • Unallocated LUN Capacity. The amount of configured storage that has been carved into LUNs whereby the LUNs are not yet associated with a host. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this amount under Logical: Unallocated.

Array Storage Reserved for Overhead

Shows how much of your back-end array storage is reserved for RAID overhead and other administrative uses.

The Array Storage Reserved for Overhead report shows this reserved storage as follows:

  • RAID Overhead. The amount of configured storage that is set aside by the array for RAID operations, such as mirroring and striping. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this amount under Logical: Overhead.

  • Replication. The amount of configured storage that is set aside for maintaining replication techniques such as snapshot reserves and WAFL. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this amount under Logical: Replication.

  • Administrative. The amount of configured storage that is set aside by the array for administrative uses, not including RAID overhead. In snapshot or replication scenarios, this value includes target LUNs for storing copied or replicated data. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this amount under Logical: Administrative.

Array Storage Utilization Summary

Shows how well you use your total array storage.

Array Storage Utilization Summary shows utilization as follows:

  • Unconfigured Capacity. The amount of array storage that has not been formatted.

  • Capacity Reserved for Overhead. The Configured array storage that is reserved for RAID overhead and other administrative uses.

  • Capacity Available for Allocation. The Configured array storage that is not in use.

  • Total Allocated Capacity. The Configured array storage that Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server has not discovered. Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server lists this amount under Logical: Unknown.

Arrays with Unconfigured Storage

Lists the arrays that have the storage that has not yet been formatted.

NAS and Unified Storage

Shows the physical filers and virtual filers along with the NAS level capacities. This report helps you look at the NAS utilization per physical filer or virtual filer. You can filter the report by NAS vendors and also by different filer types - Physical Filer, Virtual Filer, Physical Data Movers, and Virtual Data Movers.

NAS File System Usage

Shows the storage utilization of the NAS file systems along with the underlying volume and filer information. You can filter the report by NAS vendors and also by Filer Types.

Netapp Aggregate Over Commitment

Shows the aggregate volumes of the Netapp filers. This report helps you identify whether you have created flex volumes whose capacities are more than the aggregate capacity. It also shows the number of flex volumes created out of the aggregate.

Total Allocated Array Storage

Shows how much of your back-end array storage has been allocated both to virtualizers, and directly to hosts.
