Host Consumption in Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server 5.0

The Host Consumption reporting package is one of the reporting packages that ships with Veritas Operations Manager Enterprise Server.

The Host Consumption reporting package provides metrics that explain how file systems and databases use their allocated storage. The metrics are described in the tables below. Thin-aware and cluster-aware host consumption metrics are also provided.

Metric

Description

Percent Host Utilitization

Of the total storage allocated to the host, the percentage that is in use by supported application / filesystems

Total Allocated

Amount of total storage that is designated to this host. It includes total block and file storage allocated to host.

NAS Allocated Capacity

The NAS file system capacities that have been allocated to this host in terms of shares or LUNs

NAS Consumed Capacity

Used Capacity of NAS file systems that have been allocated to this host in terms of shares or LUNs.

Metric

Description

Allocated Capacity (GB)

Amount of block storage that is designated for use by this host.

Claimed Capacity (GB)

The amount of storage allocated to a host in which that host's operating system has written a device handle to the LUN.

Unclaimed Capacity (GB)

The amount of storage allocated to a host in which that host's operating system has not written a device handle to the LUN.

% Allocated Capacity Claimed

The percentage of a host's allocated capacity that has a device handle written to it. This value is calculated by dividing the Claimed Capacity (GB) by Allocated Capacity (GB).

% Allocated Capacity Unclaimed

The percentage of a host's allocated capacity that does not have a device handle written to it. This value is calculated by dividing the Unclaimed Capacity (GB) by Allocated Capacity (GB).

Allocated SAN

The fiber channel (SAN) storage capacity that is allocated to the host.

Claimed SAN

The fiber channel (SAN) storage capacity that is allocated to a host where the host's operating system has written a device handle to the LUN.

Allocated DAS

The directly-attached storage (DAS) that is allocated to the host.

Allocated ISCSI

The ISCSI storage capacity that is allocated to the host.

Allocated File Storage

The file-based storage capacity that is allocated to the host. This is the NAS storage capacity and storage capacity that is allocated to a non-global zone through the global zone.

Claimed ISCSI

The ISCSI storage capacity that is allocated to a host where the host's operating system has written a device handle to the LUN.

Claimed File Storage

The file storage capacity that is allocated to a host where the host's operating system has written a device handle to the LUN.

Storage (LUN) Capacity Directly Allocated to Virtual Machine

The storage capacity that is allocated when LUNs are directly allocated to the virtual machines, or by VIO servers and ESX servers.

Virtual Pool Allocated

The storage capacity that comes directly from the storage pool that is allocated to the virtual machine.

Claimed By Other Hosts

Amount of shared storage designated for use by this host for which some other host has written device handles.

Assigned To Volume Manager

Amount of claimed storage that is being accessed by a volume manager disk group.

Directly Assigned to File System

Amount of claimed storage that is being accessed by file systems,

Potentially Unassigned

Amount of storage being accessed directly by an application or by an unknown Volume Manager or file system.

Assigned To Other Host

Amount of shared storage for which host's operating system has written a device handle to the LUN and that storage is being accessed by volume manager or filesystems on other host. This will typically happen in a cluster scenario.

Uncorrelated SAN Allocated Capacity

Amount of SAN storage from JBODs and non-correlated array disks allocated to the host.

Disk Group Capacity

Amount of storage in volume manager disk groups on the host.

Disk Group Used

Amount of storage in volume manager disk groups to which data has been written.

Disk Group Available

Amount of storage in volume manager disk groups to which data has not been written.

Volume Manager Overhead

The amount of volume manager storage that is reserved for overhead, most commonly for RAID techniques such as mirroring and parity.

File System Available

Amount of storage in file systems to which data has not been written.

File System on Volume

Amount of storage in file systems that are based on VM volumes.

File System on Non Volume

Amount of storage in file systems that are not based on VM volumes.

File System Used By Application

File system capacity on hosts used by supported applications to which data has been written.

File System Used By Non-Application

File system capacity on hosts used by non-application files or unsupported applications to which data has been written.

Amount of storage in volumes on this host.

Unused Volume Capacity

Amount of storage in in volumes that is not utilized by discovered file systems and applications on this host.

Virtualization Capacity

Total capacity in storage pools visible to ESX server.

Virtualization Unused

This consists of unutilized capacity at virtualization layer. This comprises of unused capacity in data store and capacity of unused Virtual Machine disks.

Storage Pool Used

Used capacity in storage pools visible to ESX server.

Unused VMDK

Available capacity in storage pools visible to ESX server.

Exported to Virtual Machine

Storage in global zone assigned to non-global zone.

Assigned to Storage Pool

Claimed storage by ESX servers that is added to data store.

Storage Pool Overhead

Capacity wasted while creating virtual machine disks from storage pools visible to ESX server.

NAS Storage Pool Capacity

Total capacity in NAS based storage pools visible to ESX server.

NAS Storage Pool Used

Used capacity in NAS based storage pools visible to ESX server.

NAS Storage Pool Unused

Available capacity in NAS based storage pools visible to ESX server.

Exported LUN Capacity

LUN storage in global zone assigned to non-global zone.

Exported Volume Capacity

Volume storage in global zone assigned to non-global zone.

Exported File System Capacity

File system storage in global zone assigned to non-global zone.
