Freezing cluster hosts using Veritas Operations Manager Add-on for Veritas Cluster Server Administration 5.0

You can freeze a cluster host to prevent the service groups on it from failing over to another host. This task is particularly useful when you perform a system upgrade on a cluster host.

A frozen host unfreezes when Veritas Cluster Server is restarted. You can choose to freeze the host persistently if you want the host to remain frozen until explicitly unfrozen. Before you freeze the host, you can also choose to fail over (evacuate) the host's active service groups to another host in the cluster.

You must have Administrator privilege or Operator privilege on the parent cluster of the host to perform this task. To freeze the host persistently, or to failover active service groups to another host, you must have the Administrator privilege.

To freeze cluster hosts

  1. In the Veritas Operations Manager console, select Manage > Clusters.

  2. In the list of clusters, click the required cluster.

  3. Click Hosts.

  4. From the list, select the hosts to freeze and do one of the following:

    • Click Actions above the hosts list and select Freeze.

    • Right-click on any selected row to display the shortcut menu, and select Freeze.

  5. In the Freeze host (system) page, select Freeze Persistently if you want to ensure that the hosts remain frozen unless explicitly unfrozen.

  6. Select Evacuate service groups running on the host (system) if you want to fail over the active service groups on the hosts to another host in the cluster.

  7. Click OK.

  8. In the Result page, verify that the hosts have been successfully frozen. Click OK.

When you freeze a host, a red lock is displayed on the host name in the console.
