The Veritas Operations Manager Storage Insight Add-on for Deep Array Discovery and Mapping provides you detailed information on the storage enclosures in your datacenter. By bringing you the information to the level of adapters and disks, the Storage Insight Add-on helps you understand your storage enclosures in a much deeper level.
As part of its deep array discovery capabilities, the Storage Insight Add-on provides you options to understand the HITACHI enclosures in your datacenter in a better way. The Storage Insight Add-on makes use of the HiCommand server that is connected to a host, which you can designate as the discovery host to get the information from HITACHI enclosures. This host need not be a part of the Management Server. The HITACHI Agentlet that resides on the Management Server pushes the application programming interface (API) commands to the discovery host to get the information from the HiCommand server using XML. The discovery host executes the commands to collect the information on the enclosures. This information, which is brought to the Management Server, is parsed and put in the Veritas Operations Manager database.
After the Storage Insight Add-on performs the deep discovery of HITACHI enclosures, you can view the following additional information on the details page of a HITACHI enclosure:
LDEVs (Logical Devices)
PDEVs (Physical Devices)
To perform this operation, you must have the domain administrator privilege, with an access to the storage views and operations.
To configure deep discovery for the HITACHI storage enclosures
In the Veritas Operations Manager console, select Settings > Enclosure.
In the Enclosure page, click Actions > Configure New Device.
In the Configure Device wizard panel, select the vendor and the enclosure model. Click Next.
In the Configure Device wizard panel to specify the details of the devices, enter the required information. Click Next.
In the Configure Device wizard panel that lists the HITACHI enclosures that are connected to the HiCommand server, enter the required information to update discovery information. Click Finish.
