This article describes how to use a Data Connector Import Rule to import Asset Management Software Purchases and Software Licenses for Asset Management 7.x. For Asset Management 6.5, instead refer to the related following article:

Getting Started

To import both a Software Purchase and a Software License, Data Connector will actually need to use two sets of Import Rules. This then requires the following to be created:

  • A data file for the Software Licenses.
  • A Data Source for the Software Licenses.
  • An Import Rule for the Software Licenses.
  • A data file for the Software Purchases.
  • A Data Source for the Software Purchases.
  • An Import Rule for the Software Purchases.

For information on how to use Data Connector, please refer to the following article:

Note: For the remainder of these instructions, it is assumed that the user understands how to use Data Connector as defined by HOWTO79380.

Creating the Import Rules

The following screenshots outline how to set up each Import Rule to use all possible data classes and associations. The user may choose to not use some of these, which is acceptable so long as they are not required fields. Tip: The red highlighted box for the Software Purchase shows where to set the association for the Software License.

Once all of the data files, Data Sources and Import Rules are created, the Software Licenses should be imported first. The Software Purchases are then imported and associated to the now-existing Software Licenses. Tip: The user can also choose to associate or import Purchase Orders as part of this process, as Software Purchases can be associated to those. This is not covered is article, however.
