Migrating from Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Client Security to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 or later

The discontinued products Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition (SAV) 10.x and Symantec Client Security (SCS) 3.x have reached End of Support Life (EOSL). The recommended replacement for your Symantec legacy product is Symantec Endpoint Protection. If you have not already migrated to Symantec Endpoint Protection, it is important to do so. This article helps you simplify the process of migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Table: Reasons to migrate

Reason

Solution

End of Support Life (EOSL) for Symantec AntiVirus / Client Security

On July 4, 2012, the legacy security products Symantec AntiVirus and Symantec Client Security reached End of Support Life (EOSL). Symantec no longer provides technical support or product updates.

For more information on End of Life (EOL) and End of Support Life (EOSL) for these products, see: End of Life announcement for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition and Symantec Client Security

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.x provides greater protection than antivirus alone

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.x offers a much broader suite of protection technologies than the legacy Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Client Security. Symantec Endpoint Protection includes the following protection components:

  • Virus and Spyware Protection

Protects against viruses, malware, and spyware. Also includes Download Protection Email Protection to scan Microsoft Outlook, POP3/SMTP, and Lotus Notes (enterprise version only) email.

  • Proactive Threat Protection

Uses SONAR to provide zero-day protection against unknown threats.

  • Network Threat Protection

Protects against Web and network threats, with Firewall and Intrusion Prevention components.
