Upgrading to a new release of Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition

You can upgrade to the newest release of the product to take advantage of new features. To install a new version of the software, you must perform certain tasks to ensure a successful upgrade or migration. You should also check the Known Issues that appear in the Release Notes for any late-breaking information relating to upgrades.

Step 1 | Back up the database | Back up the database that Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager uses to ensure the integrity of your client information. | ||
Step 2 | Stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service | You must stop the management server service before you install a newer version. | ||
Step 3 | Upgrade the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager software | Install the new version of the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager in your network. The existing version is detected automatically, and all settings are saved during the upgrade. | ||
Step 4 | Upgrade Symantec client software | Upgrade your client software to the latest version. See About upgrading client software. By default, the upgraded Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager automatically upgrades the managed clients. To disable this feature, right-click your Group, select , and then check Disable Automatic Client Package Updates.
