You need to know which paths are supported when you upgrade to the latest release of Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.x from previous releases of Symantec Endpoint Protection, or when you migrate from a legacy product, such as Symantec AntiVirus.

You can upgrade from a Small Business Edition product to the enterprise version, but the reverse is considered a downgrade and is not supported.
See the release notes for the version to which you are about to upgrade:

You may want to install Symantec Endpoint Protection from scratch without migrating the legacy software. If you skip the migration, you do not import the legacy settings.
To skip the migration of legacy products:
Uninstall the legacy virus protection software from your servers and client computers.
During Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager installation, do not select the migration option.
After initial product installation, use Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager to adjust the group settings and policy settings.
Deploy the Symantec Endpoint Protection client to the unprotected legacy computers.
