How do I install files to the Program Files directory in Microsoft Windows* Vista?
Writing to the Program Files folder is a limitation of Windows Vista. It does not allow Standard users the access to install to or use the Program Files folder. However, it will allow administrators the ability to write to this folder.
When you create an install in Wise, you have the option when you select File > New, a check box Create a Vista Standard User Installation. When this box is checked, Wise will not allow you to add any files to this folder.
In our Windows Installer help files, there is an article called "Creating an Installation for Standard Users". In this article it does indicate what the default folder is for Windows Vista. It is Windows\Profiles\Local Settings\Application Data. This might be the folder you want to install to.
For more information on Windows Vista and what its limitations are, please refer to Windows Vista documentation or Windows Installer SDK help files.
