Question
Is Symantec Endpoint Protection Integration Component a free product? Why do I get questions about licenses during the installation and when I go to the licensing page, I see an expired component? Does the expired license cause any issues with the component?
Answer
The Symantec Endpoint Protection Integration Component is a free product. Questions have arisen over two screens in the product that make it appear that this is not the case.
Licensing screen during initial Notification Server Installation
This screen is displayed during a typical new installation of the product. If the Altiris Console is already installed and the Integration Component is added via the "Install Additional Solutions" page, this screen should not be encountered.
Please note that this screen is produced by the Notification Server installer and not the Symantec Endpoint Protection Integration Component. It is provided for convenience when installing other "For Fee" solutions. Please select the Evaluation radio button and proceed. This will not cause Symantec Endpoint Protection Integration Component to be in evaluation mode; rather, it will function properly past the 30 days as presented on this screen.
Notification Licensing Page
Once the product is installed, if you navigate to the Licensing page in the Notification Server, the follow page, or one similar to it, will be displayed:
In the trial section, it is possible that an entry for the Altiris Connector Solution Data Integration Component will show its license as being expired.
Symantec Endpoint Protection Integration Component requires the Altiris Connector Solution Data Integration Component to function and does install it by default. The Altiris Connector Solution Data Integration Component is normally a "Free" product and would normally require a license for full functionality. However, because the functionality required by the Symantec Endpoint Protection Integration Component is limited, it does not utilize any of the features that normally would require a license. As a result, the Symantec Endpoint Protection Integration Component will function properly with the Altiris Connector Solution Data Integration Component in this state.
