Manually uninstalling AMS Server for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.x from Windows NT/2000/XP

Symptoms
You need to know how to manually uninstall Alert Management System (AMS) Server for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.x from a Windows NT/2000/XP computer.

Solution

Follow the steps below to remove AMS from the file system, registry, and Start menu.

Stop the following services before removing items from the registry or the file system:
  • Intel PDS
  • Intel File Transfer
  • Intel Alert Originator
  • Intel Alert Handler
  • SNMP Service4

If all Intel services stop, skip to the "To remove the AMS keys from the file system" section of this document. If any Intel service does not stop, continue with the "To disable the Intel services" section of this document.

To disable the Intel services
  1. In the right pane of the Services console, right-click Intel PDS, and then click Properties.
  2. In the Startup type drop-down list, click Disabled, and then click OK.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the following services:
    • Intel Alert Handler
    • Intel Alert Originator
    • Intel File Transfer

  4. Restart the computer.

To remove AMS from the file system
  1. Delete the following directories:

    C:\Program Files\SAV\AMS2
    C:\WINNT\System32\AMS_II

  2. Delete the following files:

    C:\Program Files\SAV\AMSAdmin.exe
    C:\Program Files\SAV\amscust.dll
    C:\WINNT\Installer\1FB9B789-CFB6-48CD-A579-1D0A30F36435

  3. Search for *.msi in the following location:

    :\WINNT\Installer

This directory may be hidden because of folder settings. The System account and Administrators group must have Full Control permissions to the folder.
  4. Right-click each .msi file, click Properties, and then click the Summary tab.
  5. Check the subject line for AMS Server. Delete the .msi files that show AMS Server on the subject line.

To remove AMS from the Windows registry
  1. Run Regedit.exe to edit the Windows registry.

WARNING: We strongly recommend that you back up the system registry before making any changes. Incorrect changes to the registry could result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the keys specified. See the document How to back up the Windows registry before proceeding.

  2. Delete the following registry keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel\Landesk\AMS2 SNMP Generator
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel\Landesk\AMS2
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{1FB9B789-CFB6-48CD-A579-1D0A30F36435}

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Intel Alert Handler
