This document discusses the features and limitations of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition when installed on Windows XP 64-bit Edition 2003 or Windows Server 2003 64-bit Edition.


Solution



The following features are supported on 64-bit editions of Windows:
  • Symantec AntiVirus client
  • LiveUpdate

Specifically, the following features are supported in native 64-bit mode:
  • SymEvent: Symevnt.sys
  • Symantec AntiVirus Realtime Protection: Navap.sys, Navapel.sys
  • Symantec AntiVirus Engine: Naveng.sys, Navex15.sys


Note: Other features of Symantec AntiVirus, such as the user interface, run in 32-bit mode on 64-bit editions of Windows.


The following features are not supported on 64-bit editions of Windows:
  • Symantec AntiVirus server
  • Symantec System Center
  • Symantec Packager
  • SAV Roam
  • Quarantine Server
  • Quarantine Console
  • LiveUpdate Administration Utility
  • AMS Server
  • The Virus Definition Transport Method (VDTM)
  • Context menu scanning
  • NT Client Install or ClientRemote Install
  • AV Server Rollout
  • Tamper protection

Note: Only the Symantec AntiVirus client component of Symantec Client Security is supported on 64-bit editions of Windows. Symantec Client Firewall is not supported.
