You have a network with multiple versions of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition or Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition or both. You want to install Symantec AntiVirus as a server, and you want to know whether it can manage the clients with older versions.

Solution

Newer versions of Symantec AntiVirus can manage clients that run older versions. Symantec AntiVirus 9.x can manage clients that run Norton AntiVirus 7.5x/7.6x or Symantec AntiVirus 8.x/9.x. Symantec AntiVirus 8.x cannot manage clients that run Symantec AntiVirus 9.x, but it can manage clients that run an earlier version of Symantec AntiVirus 8.x or Norton AntiVirus 7.5x/7.6x.

In cases where there are versions with different features, clients that run an earlier version do not support features of the new version. Although computers that run older versions of Norton AntiVirus (6.0, 7.0, and so forth) may function as managed clients, this configuration has not been tested and is not supported by Symantec.
