Using Add or Remove Programs has failed, and you need to know how to manually uninstall Symantec Quarantine Console from a computer running Windows NT/2000/XP/2003.

Solution

This document describes how to manually remove Symantec Quarantine Console from the following three places:

  • The registry
  • The Start menu
  • The hard drive

Note: If Symantec Central Quarantine and Symantec Quarantine Console are installed on same machine, you must uninstall both. When you uninstall Symantec Quarantine Console only, Symantec Central Quarantine will not function properly.

To stop the Quarantine Console services
You must stop the following services before removing items from the registry, Start menu, or hard drive:

  • Intel Alert Handler
  • Intel Alert Originator
  • Intel File Transfer
  • Intel PDS
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  2. In the Run Dialog box type:

    services.msc
  3. Click OK.
  4. Right-click the Intel Alert Handler service, and click Stop.
  5. Perform step 4 for each of the services listed above.

To remove the Quarantine Console keys from the registry
You must have administrator permissions (read and write) to edit the registry.

WARNING: We strongly recommend that you back up the registry before you make any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the keys that are specified. Read the document How to back up the Windows registry for instructions.
