Due to an error or some other reason, you need to uninstall Symantec System Center Console manually.


Solution



This document describes how to manually remove Symantec System Center console by using these steps (details follow):
  1. Stop the Symantec System Center services
  2. Remove Symantec System Center from the registry
  3. Remove Symantec System Center from the Start menu
  4. Remove Symantec System Center from the hard drive


To stop the Symantec System Center services before removing items from the registry, Start menu, or hard drive
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  2. In the Open box type the following text:

    services.msc

  3. Click OK.
  4. Right-click the Intel Alert Handler service, and click Stop.
  5. Perform step 4 for each of these additional services:
    • Symantec System Center Discovery Service
    • Intel Alert Originator
    • Intel File Transfer
    • Intel PDS

To remove the Symantec System Center keys from the registry
  1. Make sure that you have administrator permissions (read and write) to edit the registry.
  2. Exit all open programs.
  3. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.


    WARNING: Back up the registry before you make any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the keys that are specified. Read the document How to back up the Windows registry for instructions.

  4. In the Open box, type the following text:

    regedit

  5. Click OK.
  6. In Registry Editor, in the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec

  7. Delete the following child keys:
    • Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise Snap-in
    • Symantec AntiVirus Management Snap-In
    • Symantec System Center

  8. In the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\InstalledApps

  9. Delete the following property entries:
    • SSCADMIN
    • SSCNAVSNAPIN
    • SSCSCFSNAPIN

  10. In the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MMC\NodeTypes

  11. Delete the following entries:
    • {0A624A66-269C-11d3-80F4-00C04F68D969}
    • {11B529F0-7697-11d2-B34C-00104B22D5DF}
    • {4F9765D0-7907-11d2-B34C-00104B22D5DF}
    • {5DD3E8C0-7763-11d2-B34C-00104B22D5DF}
    • {5E07EBA4-B771-11d5-8152-00C04F68D969}
    • {7D604BFE-AC8F-11d1-9250-0060979C3468}
    • {CED9D6EE-B91A-11d5-8153-00C04F68D969}
    • {F01B4B50-775A-11d2-B34C-00104B22D5DF}

  12. In the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns

  13. Delete the following entries:
    • {0FD7D204-F362-11D2-80EB-00C04F68D969}
    • {103363F4-69F9-11D2-B34C-00104B22D5DF}
    • {76ECA948-CB2C-456A-BA37-DF94C1B6CAFE}
    • {7b77f3ef-b300-4413-8a80-6827fe37b694}
    • {B2F04430-034A-11D3-9B19-00104B279EC4}
    • {F7B888EE-D30C-11D2-91BE-0020AF24FE3C}

  14. In the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs

  15. Delete the following property entries:
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SSC\ExchngUI.ocx
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SSC\IMailUI.ocx
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SSC\LotNtsUI.ocx
    • C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec System Center\HELP\lic_snap.chm
    • C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec System Center\LicSnap.dll

  16. In the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

  17. Delete the NSCTOP child key.
  18. Go to any existing "ControlSet*"\Services keys and delete the same entry as in step 17.
  19. In the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Console

  20. Delete the following property entries:
    • AuditParamsFilePath
    • AuditTraceFilePath

  21. In the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Snap-In

  22. Delete the InternetMail child key.
  23. In the left pane, click My Computer to select it.
  24. On the Edit menu, click Find.
  25. Search for the following string:

    95E112F1862C68A4CA2CB5C01D352CC6

    Delete all instances that are found.
  26. Search for the following string:

    {1F211E59-C268-4A86-ACC2-5B0CD153C26C}

    Delete all instances that are found.
  27. In the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

  28. Delete the Symantec System Center child key.
  29. Restart the computer.

Symantec System Center is now disabled, even though traces of it remain in the registry. These traces have little impact on how your computer operates. It is not necessary to remove them.

To remove Symantec System Center from the Start menu
  1. On the Windows taskbar, right-click Start, and then click Open All Users.
  2. Double-click Programs.
  3. Right-click the Symantec System Center Console folder, and then click Delete.


To remove Symantec System Center from the hard drive
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Windows Explorer.
  2. Open the following folder:

    C:\Program Files\Symantec

  3. Delete the Symantec System Center folder.


    WARNING: Follow the next three steps only if Symantec AntiVirus is the only Symantec program that is installed. If the VirusDefs folder is deleted while there are other Symantec applications using virus definitions, they must be uninstalled and reinstalled in order for them to function.

  4. If Symantec System Center is the only Symantec product on your computer, delete the Symantec folder.
  5. Open the following folder:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared

  6. If Symantec System Center is the only Symantec product on your computer, delete the VirusDefs folder.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 2000/XP/2003, go to the following folder:

      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec

    • In Windows NT 4.0, go to the following folder:

      C:\Winnt\Profiles\All Users\Application Data\Symantec

  8. Delete the Symantec System Center folder.
  9. Exit Windows Explorer.
