A security patch is available for Symantec Client Firewall. This document provides information about the update, as well as download and installation instructions.
This patch was provided to update the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) signatures and to provide a security update for the product. The IDS signature update will give additional protection against known intrusion threats. The security update is a patch to update the SymDNS driver to address a vulnerability in Symantec Client Firewall. For more information on this vulnerability, read the Symantec Security Response advisory Symantec Client Firewall Remote Access and Denial of Service Issues. This patch is not delivered through LiveUpdate, so you must download the following .zip file to patch your computers.
To install the patch
- Download the patch .zip file scf_ids_update.zip.
The file is available from the Symantec Client Firewall 7.1 Product Updates page.
- Disable Symantec Client Firewall.
- Unzip scf_ids_update.zip.
This file contains setup.exe and SNDCorpUpdater.msi.
- At a command prompt, type the following:
This will not prompt the user for a reboot. However, some functionality may not work until after a reboot. To determine whether the patch has been installed properly, verify that the symids.sys, symidsco.sys, and symdns.sys files have all been updated to version 18.104.22.168.
