You installed Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.x, and you enabled Internet E-mail Auto-Protect. When you download email, you see the message "Symantec Email Proxy has deleted the following email messages. . ."

Solution

If a retail version of Norton AntiVirus was installed on the computer, follow the directions in the document How to solve problems when installing Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition over a retail or consumer version.

If a retail version of Norton AntiVirus was not installed on the computer, or if the problem persists, disable Internet E-mail Auto-Protect.

Note: Disabling email scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Symantec AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files, including email, as they are saved to your hard drive. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, make sure that Auto-Protect is enabled, and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions.

To disable Internet E-mail Auto-Protect on the local client
  1. Start Symantec AntiVirus.
  2. Uncheck Enable Internet E-mail Auto-Protect.
  3. Click OK.

To disable Internet E-mail Auto-Protect in Symantec System Center
  1. Start Symantec System Center.
  2. Unlock the server group.
  3. Right-click the parent server or client group, and then click All Tasks > Symantec AntiVirus > Client Auto-Protect Options.
  4. On the Internet E-mail tab, uncheck Enable Internet E-mail Auto-Protect.
  5. Click the lock icon so that it appears as locked.
  6. Click OK.
