You need to know how to migrate clients, servers, and management tools from a previous version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.x or 9.x or Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.x to the latest version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.x.

Solution

This document describes the upgrade process in its most basic terms. A large number of custom deployment options are available when needed, but this document is only intended to provide a basic framework for a typical environment. Detailed system requirements can be found in the document System requirements for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.0.

Upgrading to Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.x is a three part process. Start with the first part, and follow the instructions from there. Click the icon to the left of the section to either expand ( ) or collapse ( ) it. (If you cannot expand a section, then read the document Cannot expand sections in a Symantec Knowledge Base document.)

When migrating from Norton AntiVirus 7.5 or earlier, you must uninstall every piece of Norton AntiVirus from both servers and workstations. After you have uninstalled all of your Norton AntiVirus software, then follow the instructions in the next part of this document, "Part 2: Install Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition Server and components." This process causes all custom configurations to be lost.
