You see the message "Symantec AntiVirus could not communicate with ScanDlgs.dll, you may need to re-install the application." This message appears when you view logs or histories in Symantec System Center or the local Symantec AntiVirus interface.


Solution





Before you begin: This problem can happen if the incorrect version of Symantec System Center is installed on the same computer as Symantec AntiVirus. If Symantec System Center is installed on the affected computer, make sure that the correct version is installed.

To fix the problem, delete the Scandlgs.dll file and install Symantec AntiVirus again.

To delete the Scandlgs.dll file
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Find > Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type scandlgs.dll
  3. Click Find Now.
  4. When the search is complete, right-click the Scandlgs.dll file, and then click Delete.
  5. Install Symantec AntiVirus again.
