Problem
You need detailed system requirements for Symantec Client Security 3.1.
Solution
Symantec Client Security requires specific protocols, operating systems and service packs, software, and hardware. All of the requirements that are listed for Symantec Client Security components are designed to work with the hardware and software recommendations for the supported Windows and NetWare computers. All computers to which you install Symantec Client Security should meet or exceed the recommended system requirements for the operating system that is used.
Review the following requirements before you install Symantec Client Security:
- Required communications ports and protocols
- Operating system requirements
- RAM, storage, and application requirements
Required communications ports and protocols
The following table describes the network protocols and ports that are required to be available to perform the various functions of the product:
| Function | Location | Protocol | Port range |
| General communication | System Center, management servers | TCP | 1024–4999 |
| General communication | System Center, management servers, clients | TCP | 2967 |

The following table describes the operating systems on which each of the components of Symantec Client Security 3.1 is supported:
| Component | Supported operating systems |
| Symantec System Center |
|
| Symantec Client Security server |

|
Note: If Symantec AntiVirus is to be installed on Novell NetWare, the computer from which it is rolled out must run the Novell client for NetWare, rather than the Microsoft client for NetWare.
RAM, storage, and application requirements
In the following table, the requirements describe the amount of RAM and disk storage space that is used by each program. Resources that are used by other programs or by the operating system are not considered here.
Symantec recommends Pentium II or higher processors for all 32-bit components.
| Component | RAM | Other requirements |
| Symantec System Center | 64 MB |
If Microsoft Management Console version 1.2 or later is not on the computer to which you are installing, the installation program will install it. |
| Windows Symantec Client Security server | 64 MB |
Symantec AntiVirus does not support the scanning of Macintosh volumes on Windows servers for Macintosh viruses. |
| NetWare Symantec Client Security server | 15 MB |
|
| AMS2 server | 10 MB |
|
| Reporting Server | 256 MB for 100 clients 512 MB for 1,000 clients 1 GB for 50,000 clients |
|
| Reporting Agent | 11 MB | 15 MB disk space |
| Symantec Client Firewall Administrator | 80 MB |
|
| Quarantine Console | 64 MB |
If Microsoft Management Console version 1.2 is not on the computer to which you are installing, the installation program will install it. |
| Central Quarantine server | 128 MB |
If you are running Windows XP, system disk space usage is increased if the System Restore functionality is enabled. |
| Symantec Client Security client 32-bit | 128 MB |
|
| Symantec Client Security antivirus client 64-bit | 80 MB |
|
Note: In Symantec Client Security 3.1, silent installations do not check whether Internet Explorer 5.5 with Service Pack 2 or later is installed on computers when it is required. If the target computers do not have the correct version of Internet Explorer, the installation fails without informing you.
