Issue

You install Reporting Server and the reporting database on a computer that has more than one network interface card. Agents cannot connect to the reporting database. You may be unable to log on to the reporting server.

Solution

This problem happens when Reporting Server is configured to communicate by using the wrong network interface card. To fix the problem, perform the following steps:
  • Edit two files on the reporting server to show the correct host name for the network interface card.
  • Restart the Reporting Agents service on the reporting server.
  • Confirm that Symantec System Center shows the correct host name or IP address for the reporting server.

To edit the files on the reporting server
  1. Start Windows Explorer.
  2. Go to the following folder:

    Program Files\Symantec\Reporting Server\Web\Resources

  3. Open the Reporter.php file in a plain-text editor, such as Notepad.
  4. Change the $dbserver line so that it contains the correct hostname. For example:

    $dbserver = "hostname";
  5. Save and close the Reporter.php file.
  6. Go to the following folder:

    Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Reporting Agents\Win32

  7. Open the Reporter.conf file in a plain-text editor, such as Notepad.
  8. Change the $DBSRV line so that it contains the correct hostname. For example:

    $DBSRV = "hostname";

  9. Save and close the Reporter.conf file.

To restart the Reporting Agents service
  1. On the Windows Taskbar, click Start > Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following text:

    services.msc

  3. Click OK.
  4. In the right pane, right-click the Reporting Agents entry, and then click Restart.

To set the reporting server's host name or IP address in Symantec System Center
  1. Start Symantec System Center.
  2. Unlock the server group.
  3. Right-click the server or the server group, and then click All Tasks > Reporting Configuration > Configure Reporting Server.
  4. In the Host name or IP address drop-down list, type the correct URL for the reporting server.
    For example, if the server's IP address is 10.0.0.1, type the following URL.

    http://10.0.0.1/Reporting

  5. Click OK.
