This document explains how to apply the SYM06-010 point patch for Symantec AntiVirus 10.1 64-bit clients.

Before you begin:
  • With the use of this patch, you can upgrade only those computers that run 64-bit versions of Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.
  • If you use Symantec Client Security 3.1, the Symantec AntiVirus patch still applies. Symantec Client Security only includes the Symantec AntiVirus software, not Symantec Client Firewall or other Symantec Client Security features, for 64-bit platforms.

About applying the patch
The patch lets you upgrade your clients while preserving their configuration settings. Because of the complexity and size of Symantec AntiVirus software, applying a patch provides a quicker, less costly, and more efficient method by which to upgrade your clients.

The patch for 64-bit versions of Symantec AntiVirus must be installed locally on those computers.

WARNING: You cannot uninstall the patch once it is installed on your clients. If you need to remove the patch, you must first uninstall the client, then reinstall the previous Symantec software that does not contain the patch. To avoid this scenario, before you install the patch, you should install the patch in a test environment and ensure that the patch does not interfere with the normal operation of your computers and network.

Download and apply the patch
You can download the patch from the Symantec FTP site.

To download the patch for Windows
Do one of the following, depending on your program version:
To find out whether your product version requires a license, read Determining whether Symantec Client Security 3.x or Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.x requires a license. To apply the patch
Download the .msp file to the local 64-bit computer, and double-click it. The 64-bit patch does not support deployment through Symantec System Center or through ClientRemote.
