Issue

If you install a certificate, turn on SSL communications through the IIS MMC interface and then stop the semsrv service you are not able to restart it.

Solution

Installing a certificate in this manner is not supported. The supported process for updating to SSL is in the administration_guide.pdf located in the DOCUMENTS folder of the install package on page 272 under the heading "Configuring the management server to support HTTPS communication"

To restart the "semsrv service" use the following steps:
  1. De-select Require secure channels
  2. Start semsrv service
  3. Enable Require secure channels.

NOTE: In MR3(11.0.3001) the page number for configuring SSL is on page 268.
for MR2MP2(11.0.2020) the page number for configuring SSL is on page 252.
