Installation files are installed to the root of the Program Files directory and not the SAV or Symantec AntiVirus directory when migrating to Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.6.6000.
Symantec has observed certain behavior in MR6 server installs where files are placed in the root of Program Files directory. Upon a customer's attempt to uninstall the program, the customer's system may be affected. Thus far, this issue has affected a small subset of customers.
If you discover that Symantec AntiVirus is installed to the root of Program Files directory, please do not uninstall the product, but instead call Enterprise Technical Support if you have seen this in your environment and we will provide you with a tool.
This problem is fixed in Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.7 and Symantec Client Security 3.1.7. For information on obtaining the latest build of Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Client Security, read Obtaining an upgrade or update for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition or Symantec Client Security. Symantec has also posted an updated build of 10.1.6.6000 and 184.108.40.20600. With Symantec AntiVirus installed to the root of Program Files, you can migrate to build 10.1.7.7000 / 220.127.116.1100, or the updated build of 10.1.6.6000 / 18.104.22.16800 and Symantec AntiVirus will be moved back into a subfolder under the Program Files directory.
