With the exception of smc –start, the client process must be running to process the new command line parameters.

Note: The client does not support UNC paths.

The commands that are available include:

• smc -start
Starts the client service.

• smc [-p <password> ]-stop
Stops the client service and unloads it from memory.

• smc -exportadvrule <filename>
Exports Clients Network Threat Protection rules to the specified file <filename> , where you specify the name of the file and its extension, using the full path (for example, c:\config\agentrules.sar).
A log is added to the System log indicating the result of the export operation and its results. Note that this can only be performed on an unmanaged client

• smc -importadvrule <filename>
Imports the Clients Network Threat Protection rules from a specified <filename>, where you specify the name of the file and its extension, using the full path (for example, c:\config\agentrules.sar).
A log is added to the System log indicating the result of the import operation and its results. This can only be performed on an unmanaged client.

Note: Rules that are imported overwrite existing advanced rules.

• smc [-p password] -exportconfig <filename>
Exports the Client configuration file to an XML file <filename>, where you specify the name of the file and its extension, using the full path (for example, c:\config\agentconfig.xml).

• smc -updateconfig
Updates the configuration of the Client by forcing a heartbeat, thus pulling the latest configuration from the Management Server.
This does not always change the "last check-in time" displayed in the SEPM console -- that value changes only when a client's status changes.
Heartbeats do not necessarily cause a status change, so the value of this may not always change.

• smc -debug
This command is valid ONLY on a DEBUG build
