For Mac OS X Server

Note:
  • LiveUpdate does not support SSL encryption. Your Web server must be running unencrypted for LiveUpdate to retrieve updates from your Web server.
  • This information is for use on the server that Symantec Administration Console for Macintosh is installed, on which the Web service is already running.

For Tiger (10.4.x) or Leopard (10.5.x):
  1. On the Mac OS X Server, create a directory in the default Web service directory to store the definition files and program update files.
For example, /Library/WebServer/Documents/LiveUpdate. Note that by default, the Web service serves Web pages from /Library/WebServer/Documents.
  2. In the LiveUpdate Administration Utility, choose number 1, "Manage Preferences."
  3. In preference 2, select "Set preferences individually."
  4. In preference 3, specify the folder where downloaded product update files are stored. Enter the full path, or drag and drop the folder where downloaded LiveUpdate packages will be stored. The program refers to this folder as the "download folder." If a download folder was previously specified, press return to select that folder.

For Mac OS X Client

For Tiger (10.4.x):
  1. Open System Preferences, then choose Sharing.
  2. Select Services.
  3. Put a check in the box that says Personal Web Sharing.
  4. Create a directory in the default root Web service directory to store the definition files and program update files.
    For example, /Library/WebServer/Documents/LiveUpdate.

For Leopard (10.5.x):
  1. Open System Preferences, then choose Sharing.
  2. Choose to enable Web Sharing.
  3. Create a directory in the default root Web service directory to store the definition files and program update files.
    For example, /Library/WebServer/Documents/LiveUpdate.

After enabling the service and creating the folder in which to store the updates, configure LiveUpdate Administration Utility to use this folder.
  1. In the LiveUpdate Administration Utility, choose option 1, Manage Preferences.
  2. Under Manage Preferences, at preference 2, choose to "Set preferences individually".
  3. At preference 3, specify the folder where downloaded product update files are stored. Enter the full path, or drag and drop the folder where downloaded LiveUpdate packages will be stored. The program refers to this folder as the "download folder". If a download folder was previously specified, press return to select that folder.
