How do I set up Auto Location Switching based on a registry key in Sygate Secure Enterprise (SSE) 4.x or Symantec Enterprise Protection (SEP) 5.x

Solution

The syntax for configuring Auto Location Switching based on registry keys in SSE 4.x and SEP 5.x may be somewhat unfamiliar to someone used to the traditional Windows syntax for registry values.
    • In version 4.x the registry key ("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Testing") and value name ("location" in the example below) needs to be added under "Key:" separated by a backslash, and the value data under "Value:" in the Policy Manager dialog.
    • In version 5.x the registry key minus HKLM ("SOFTWARE\Testing") and value name ("location" in the example below) needs to be added under "Name:" separated by a backslash, and the value data under "Value:" in the Policy Manager dialog.

See the following screenshots for examples. Only registry values under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE can be used for Auto Location registry key Switching.

(Version 4.x screenshot to the left, version 5.x to the right.)

The version 5 setting in the screenshot to the right would trigger on the following registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Testing]
"location"="loc2"
