Instructions for using the "Rx4Defs64" utility
Solution
Warning: This utility is provided for your convenience only. Symantec Technical Support cannot provide support for the use of this utility or any scripts calling this utility.
- Note: Do not use "Rx4Defs64" to repair the definitions for Symantec Endpoint Protection 11. See Using the "Rx4DefsSEP" utility at http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/docid/2009032409384048 on SEP 11 clients.
- Do not use this version of the "Rx4Defs64" utility on 32-bit operating systems; there is a specific version of the utility for 32-bit operating systems. See Using the "Rx4Defs" utility, http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/docid/2008053010223848
The "Rx4Defs64" utility is used to completely remove and replace definitions for Symantec Antivirus running on 64bit systems.
To obtain "Rx4Defs64" please contact Symantec Technical support at:
Once the utility has been obtained please follow these instructions:
Note: The zip file is password protected.
Un-Zip Password: symantec
1. Extract the file to a new folder to a convenient location, such as the Desktop, using the un-zip password provided above.
2. Execute the tool by double clicking 'Rx4Defs64.exe'
Note: This utility will silently attempt to repair the virus definitions on the computer that it is run on. Once the utility finishes (this may take several minutes) the computer may need to be restarted for the changes to take effect. This utility will replace the current definitions with a specific set of definitions and the definitions it places on the computer may be out of date. It is recommended that LiveUpdate be run on unmanaged clients after repairing the definitions with this utility. Managed clients should retrieve the latest definitions automatically from their parent server if so configured.
