Issue



Connection errors in scm-server-0.log, and the Security Response area of SEPM Home may display the message "No data, possibly because no Internet access since last time"

Symptoms
 

  • Sample scm-server-0.log entries (note references to "securitydata" and "virusdata"):

    Unknown Exception in: com.sygate.scm.server.util.securitydata.VirusData
    ...
    Unknown Exception in: com.sygate.scm.server.task.SecurityDataTask
    java.lang.Exception: HTTP 403 Forbidden, URL:
    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/outbreak.bin
    ...
    Make sure that the server is running and your session has not timed out.
    If you can reach the server but cannot log on, make sure that you provided the correct parameters.
    If you are experiencing network issues, contact your system administrator. ErrorCode: 0x80020000
    ...

    java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
    ...
    com.sygate.scm.common.communicate.CommunicationException: Unexpected server error. ErrorCode: 0x10010000

 

  • In SEPM Home tab, the Security Response area may display the message "No data, possibly because no Internet access since install time"







 


Cause



Either a proxy or a firewall is blocking access to host "http://securityresponse.symantec.com".


Solution



Configure the proxy and/or firewall to enable access to host "http://securityresponse.symantec.com".



Technical Information
How to do this in ISA 2004.



    1.) Open ISA Server Management
    2.) Go to Arrays then double click on your server name.
    3.) Click on Firewall Policy
    4.) In the right pane choose Toolbox
    5.) Click on Network Objects
    6.) Select URL Sets
    7.) Right click and get New URL Set
    8.) Input the name of URL set and the address:

    Then

    1.) Open ISA Server Management
    2.) Go to Arrays then double click on your server name.
    3.) Click on Firewall Policy
    4.) In the right pane choose Tasks
    5.) Under System Policy Tasks click on Edit System Policy
    6.) At the end of the list find out category Various and Allowed Sites
    7.) Click on Add and choose your URL set which contains the blocked site

    Allow LiveUpdate traffic in the gateway firewall policy.
