Instructions are needed for using the SylinkReplacer utility to restore communications between Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) clients and their Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM)

Solution

The SylinkReplacer utility is designed to replace Sylink.xml files in existing Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) clients.

Note: The SylinkReplacer utility is only for use in Symantec Endpoint Protection environments. To obtain SylinkReplacer, contact Symantec Technical Support at:
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index.jsp   It is important to let Technical Support know the version of SEP clients you are attempting to update.  A different build of the SylinkReplacer tool is used for Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 than Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.  The same tool cannot be used due to changes in technology and file locations between SEP 11 and SEP 12.1.

Note: The zip file is password protected. To unzip the file use the following password: symantec

  1. Extract the file to a convenient location, such as the Desktop, using the unzip password provided above.
  2. Follow the instructions provided in the SylinkReplacer.PDF
  3. Execute the tool by double clicking SylinkReplacer.exe and follow the onscreen instructions.

Please note that the DOS window should not be closed during any course of action while the tool is running.

In place of using the SylinkReplacer utility, the Communincation Update Package Deployment tool can be utilized to replace the Sylink.xml when Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 12.1 RU2 or newer is used.

See article: How to deploy/update communication settings from your SEPM to your SEP clients machines with SEP 12.1 RU2 or newer
