Problem
Symptoms
You access the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager on port 9090 in an attempt to install the Remote Console. You are presented with the web page and links to download these items. When you click on a link, the page acts like it is loading information, but will put you back on the original page without installing the desired components.
Alternately, a bullet point is displayed, but no "Click here to download and log in to the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager" link is available on screen.

Cause
This is due to default security settings in Internet Explorer on Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. Certain scripting features that the Remote Console needs are, by default, disabled for security reasons.
Solution
The security option "Automatic Prompting for ActiveX Controls" needs to be enabled. When this option is disabled, the user will not be prompted to either allow or disallow ActiveX controls, causing the web-based installation of the Remote Console to fail. Enabling this option will only allow ActiveX controls to run if the user allows them to run through the prompt. "Active Scripting" must also be enabled or changed to prompt the user.
- Open Internet Explorer
- Click on Tools
- Select Internet Options from the drop down menu
- Click on the Security tab
- Click the Custom level button
- Scroll down to the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section
- Locate Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls and click the Enable radio button
- Scroll down to the Scripting section
- Locate Active scripting and click the Enable radio button
- Click OK.
The SEPM server's IP address can be added to Internet Explorer's "trusted sites" on the Security tab. The default settings for trusted sites should allow the Remote Console to be accessed, downloaded and and operated correctly.
