Issue

How do I upgrade to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x (SEP 11) from Confidence Online for Corporate PCs (COPC)?

Symptoms
Confidence Online for Corporate PCs and Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x may not be used simultaneously.

Cause

Since Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x has the functionality of Confidence Online for Corporate PCs built in, Confidence Online for Corporate PCs must be removed from each client before installing Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x.

Solution

Confidence Online for Corporate PCs (LAN clients) may be uninstalled manually through “Add/Remove Programs” or with the Microsoft Installer (MSI).

The client can be uninstalled from the Add/Remove Programs menu only by a user with administrator rights.

Note: Trying to uninstall the client with insufficient user privileges may lead to InstallShield Error #1605--See the explanation and resolution at: http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108474

An administrator can use the Microsoft Installer (MSI) to uninstall the client for Corporate PCs without indication to the user. This “silent” uninstall can be accomplished by entering the following line command, which uses the /x parameter:

For COEE version 5.0 and newer:

msiexec /x { 34CEFAC5-3F88-421B-A645-D1E7F903E788} / qn

For COEE versions prior to 5.0:

msiexec /x {E162FDD7-FAF4-4EA3-9F3C-DADB99B0A6AD} / qn

References
Detailed instructions can be found in the Administrator's Guide located on the original installation CD.

Refer to the section "Uninstalling the Client”.
