LU 1825, 1817 or 1806 errors when running a LUALL.exe

LiveUpdate will not update content on the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) and a LU1817, LU1825 or LU1806 error code is displayed when running LUALL.exe.

Symptoms
LiveUpdate will not update content on the SEPM and virus definitions are stuck on a specific date.
When running LUALL.exe, LU 1825 and or LU 1817 error messages are displayed with the following:
"LU1825: LiveUpdate could not understand how to install this update. You may need to get the latest version of Liveupdate before you can install the updates."

Environment



All supported Microsoft Windows OS's

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x


Cause



This is known to be caused by the following conditions:
1. Corrupt SEP install.
2. Previous install of a Norton consumer security product. i.e. Leftover file system entries and or registry entries.


Solution



1. Uninstall SEP and LiveUpdate normally through the Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features). If this fails then use the latest version of Cleanwipe to remove SEP and Liveupdate.
2. If it has been determined that a Norton Security product was installed on the system, please uninstall that product normally through the Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features). If this fails, then use the latest version of the Norton Removal Tool.

NOTE: The Norton Removal Tool will not uninstall SEP, SEPM and related components.
NOTE: Cleanwipe will not uninstall any Norton security product.

3. Reboot the computer.
4. Reinstall SEP and LiveUpdate.
