Error: "Unable to create the configuration server network endpoint. ..." during installation and when starting Ghost Console

At the end of the Ghost installation, you see a message similar to "Unable to create the configuration server network endpoint. Please check that the system has TCP/IP networking enabled and that the network has been assigned an IP address." You also see the message each time you start the Ghost Console.
The message indicates that the network cannot bind the TCP/IP sockets to the network port addresses that Ghost requires. The message is usually due to a port conflict or problems that cause ports to be unavailable. Sometimes simply rebooting the console machine resolves this issue.
The TCP/IP protocol assigns ports to Windows applications to identify which application to send the information to. Each Windows application usually uses one or more specific port numbers. A port conflict occurs when other software on the same computer is using a port number that Ghost uses.
In the case of a port conflict, resolving the problem may require uninstalling the conflicting program.
The remaining information in this section is provided to help you determine which program might be conflicting with Ghost. For further information, consult your network administrator.
To list the ports that are already in use
- Stop the Ghost services. See the document How to start and stop the Ghost service.
- Run the Netstat command:
- Open a DOS prompt in Windows.
NOTE: If Ghost Technical Support requested that you send them the list of ports that are in use, use the command netstat -a > netlog.txt to save the list under the file name Netlog.txt. Use the instructions you received from Ghost Technical Support to send the file to Ghost Technical Support.
Because the Netstat command does not list which executable is bound to each port, you may require a third-party program to determine which program is using each port. One such tool is the Norton Internet Security (NIS). On the NIS "Network Connections" pane in the statistics screen, NIS tracks the name of each executable that is bound to a TCP or UDP port.
Port not available
The problem may happen when TCP/IP networking is not enabled, or the network has a problem with its IP addresses or DHCP server. To verify that this is the cause, use the Ping command to check the connections between computers on the network. If the Ping command cannot receive a response from other computers, contact your network technical support to resolve the networking problems before running Ghost.
Using more than one NIC on the computer can be problematic. Disable all but one in the BIOS.
