Problem

You are using the LiveUpdate Administrator (LUAdmin) to download update packages from Symantec through I-Gear to an internal LiveUpdate server. The downloaded packages are corrupted and clients cannot update from the internal LiveUpdate server.

Solution

If you examine one of the files downloaded by LUAdmin (Ennlubdb.x86, for example), note that the end of the incomplete file consists of HTML code. It says that the file has been blocked by DDR. I-Gear adds this HTML code.

To solve this problem, add the domains "symantec.com" and "liveupdate.symantec.com" to an existing list that is set for "Allow - Filtering Disabled" mode. If you do not have such a list, then follow the steps in the next section to create one, and then add the domains to that list. Then set the list to "Allow (Filtering Disabled)" mode.

To create a new list:

  1. Open the I-Gear administration screen.
  2. Click Lists > Add. The "Adding a List" page appears with the following four sections: List Name, Public/Private Access, Access Control (Users/Groups), and Access Control (Permissions).
  3. In the List Name section, type the new name in the "New List Name" text box.

    NOTE: The following characters cannot be included as part of the name: ^ ! # + { } [ ] ,
  4. In the Public/Private section, specify whether the new list will be Public (available to objects) or Private (available only to a subset of objects).
  5. In the Access Control (Users/Groups) section specify who may control this new list.
  6. In the Access Control (Permissions) section specify the initial permissions that you want to give to the users or groups.
  7. When you complete the selections for the "Adding a List" page, click Add. The "Adding URLs to List" page appears.
  8. After adding URLs to the new List, click Done to return to the main I-Gear administration page.

NOTE: A dictionary is created when you complete the creation process for the New List.

To activate the new list, set the list to Deny in the schedule.
