Issue

During script execution on a Windows 2000-based client that is running Microsoft Client Services for NetWare (CSNW), you cannot mount Novell Netware volume and you see the message "System Error 1317 has occured. The specified user does not exist."

Solution

When the smeclnt is running, any providers located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order other than LanMan Workstation are disabled.
On Windows 987/NT, this meant that network browsing in a NetWare environment was not possible, but it was still possible to mount a NetWare volume using the NET USE command; for example,

net use * \\NWServer\Volume /USER:name password

On Windows 2000 running the CSNW, this is no longer possible. If you try to mount a NetWare volume during script execution, you will see the error message.

Workaround
Create or change the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\csd\control\2.0\SMEProviders
REG_SZ:NWCWorkstation,LanmanWorkstation

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NWCWorkstation\Parameters\DefaultLocation
REG_SZ
(leave empty).

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NWCWorkstation\Parameters\DefaultScriptOptions
REG_DWORD 0

where
0 = do not run login script and
3 = default - run login script

Note: NWCWorkstation options will apply to all subsequent users who log on to machine. That is, after script execution, reset all these entries.
