Troubleshooting the use of SATA hard drives with Ghost

General guidelines for troubleshooting the use of SATA hard drives with Corporate Ghost.
The process using Ghost on a client computer stops right after the blue and grey DOS user interface shows up.
Ghost cannot always access the SATA drive using the native setting for the hard disk in the BIOS.
To resolve issues using SATA drives on client computers, experiment with the suggestions listed below:
Are you using RAID?
- Ghost 11.0.x is designed to work with hardware RAID 0 or 5. Use a Windows PE disk with the GhostCast Server. Ghost is not designed to work with other types of RAID such as software RAID or RAID 1.
- Repeat the operation using the command line switch -NOIDE For instructions on how to add a switch, see the document : 'How to use Ghost command line switches'
Use Ghost with other command line switches.
- Try using the combination of switches: -FNI -FFX -NOIDE -NOUSB
- In the BIOS on the client computer, there may be a section called 'SATA' or 'Hard Disk.' Depending on the particular computer, the setting should be changed to one of the following:
Legacy SATA Mode
- You must turn off AHCI in the BIOS.
Is there an IRQ conflict with the NIC driver?
- In some cases, there can be an IRQ conflict between the SATA drive and the DOS NIC driver used by Ghost. If you have Ghost 11.0.x, try using the NIC template called 'Universal Packet Driver v2.0 [irqcfg]' You could also try updating the DOS NIC driver as listed in the Ghost Boot Disk Wizard. To make the change, see the document 'Adding or modifying NIC templates in the Ghost Boot Wizard'
Have you tried MS-DOS?
- Using MS-DOS could help in some cases. To import MS-DOS, see the document : 'How to import MS-DOS into the Ghost Boot Wizard'
You must tell Ghost to use MS-DOS, by either recreating your boot media, or setting the computer to use MS-DOS in the Ghost Console. You can make the change to a machine in a machine group by right clicking on the machine name and selecting Properties, then the Client tab. Specify MS-DOS rather than PC-DOS.
Flash the BIOS.
- If the SATA drive still cannot be accessed, you may want to flash the BIOS on the client computer.
In some cases, DOS is simply not compatible with SATA. In these cases, you will need to use a Windows PE environment.

You cannot use WinPE with the Ghost Console in Ghost 11.0 or earlier.

If you are using the Ghost Console, you will need to change the PreOS for your client. This setting can be found in the Client Properties.
