Solution



1. Open pcAnywhere by double clicking on the Symantec pcAnywhere icon on the desktop.

2. Under Views change the view to Advanced View by clicking on the Go to Advanced View link.

3. From the pcAnywhere Manager menu select Remotes.

4. From the File menu select File > New Item > Advanced . . .

5. The Remote properties menu opens select Settings.

a. In the top line enter the machine name or IP if you are setting this remote to connect to directly to a host or leave it blank to scan your network segment for available Hosts.
b. The connection to the host can be fully automated so that you are not even asked for your credentials If you would rather be challenged for your host user credentials each time then skip this step. To automate the connection then check the box to Automatically log into host upon connection.
c. Enter the Login Name for the user that is set up on the host
d. Enter the Password that is set up on the host
e. If you caller is a network user not a local pcAnywhere caller then include the domain.
 

6. Select the Encryption tab.

a. Under the Settings Level select the level of encryption that was used when the host was built. If you don't know or you connect to several different hosts then this can be left blank but you will receive a warning menu when connecting to a host that has encryption informing you that the encryption level was increased.

7. Select OK.
8. Name the Remote appropriately for its purpose and so you can identify it later.




 

Connecting to a Host.
1. Start the Remote by double clicking on the appropriate host in the list of Remotes available in pcAnywhere Manager.

2. When asked for Host Login credentials use the user and password set up on the host. If the Remote is set up to be automated with the user and password you won't be asked for a user and password.

3. An informational warning may come up with information about the encryption level being raised by the request of the host. This would be due to a mismatch in encryption levels on the host and the remote.

4. Confirm that you can control the host from the remote.

5. Take note of the Details information section on the left hand column. You can confirm what level of encryption is used for this session or how much data is sent here.

6. To disconnect, from the Session Manager select End Session

7. Click Yes and make sure that the check box is selected for the Host accepts another call If this box is checked then the host will re launch after the disconnection and will be available for connection later.
