Problem
This document provides information about how to configure Symantec Network Security 7100 Series and Symantec Network Security 4.0 to obtain updates through a proxy server.
Solution
To configure Symantec Network Security to obtain updates through a proxy server, configure an internal LiveUpdate server, configure that LiveUpdate server to use a proxy, and then configure the Symantec Network Security appliances or other nodes to use the internal LiveUpdate server.
For instructions for the first two procedures, read the How to configure Java LiveUpdate to download updates from an internal server and How to set proxy settings in Java LiveUpdate documents.
For the third procedure, read the following instructions. This procedure requires SuperUser or Adminstrator access to the Network Security Console.
To configure the appliances or other nodes to use the internal server
- Open the Network Security Console.
- Click Admin > LiveUpdate.
- On the left pane, check the enterprise or nodes that will receive updates from the internal server.
- Click Set LiveUpdate Server. The LiveUpdate Server Configuration dialog box appears.
- In the Host box, type the IP address or host name of the internal server computer.
- In the Type box, choose the protocol.
- Click OK.
