Technical Information
Using SCSP 4.5 with Symantec Client Security

For compatibility with Symantec Client Security (SCS), adjust the SCS firewall rules to permit the SCSP Agent service outbound and inbound connections with the SCSP Management Server. For port information, read the "About using firewalls with Symantec Critical System Protection" section on page 23 in the Symantec Critical System Protection Installation Guide.

Using SCSP 4.5 with AppFire Suite 3.2
Symantec Critical System Protection 4.5 is based on the AppFire Suite 3.2 product. Existing AppFire 3.2.3 agents and 3.2.3 consoles can interoperate with Symantec Critical System Protection 4.5 Management Server. Some of the differences in SCSP 4.5 include the following:

  • Different installation process
Symantec Critical System Protection uses different installation programs than AppFire Suite 3.2 does. For instance, the Management Server uses the MSI Installer, and installations on Linux use RPM installation kits.
  • Different application server
Symantec Critical System Protection uses the IBM Tomcat 5.x server, rather than the JBoss® Application Server that was used in AppFire Suite 3.2.
  • Different user interface
SCSP 4.5 uses a different graphical user interface (GUI) for ease of use and for consistency with the Symantec product line. The Symantec Critical System Protection 4.5 Administrator's Guide includes screenshots of the new user interface and explanatory text.

Some of the additions to the interface include the following:
    • A console home page
    • Links to common tasks
    • A graphical snapshot view of the current system status and event summary
    • The ability to sort agents by their operating system
    • Pre-built filters for displaying events in the monitor
    • Tabs for displaying report information
  • Enhanced policies
Symantec CSP 4.5 policies provide improved auto-detection of Symantec products and selected antivirus products.
  • Different file names
Symantec CSP 4.5 installation paths, selected registry keys, names of selected services, names of selected policies, names of command line tools, and similar items are different than in AppFire Suite 3.2.
  • Different handling of database size
In the AppFire Suite 3.2, you can use the autoextender flag to set AppFire to automatically increase the size of the databases. Due to limitations, this flag is not set by default. In Symantec CSP, the functionality is changed, and the flag is set by default. For more information, read Managing the size of the Symantec Critical System Protection 4.5 database,
